2022 Wrap Up

2022… What a fascinating yet rewarding year it has been in the recruitment market! As many of you know I went back out on my own this year and started Blackman Recruitment, where we have spent the last 8 months hitting the ground with our feet running.

This year was just as interesting as the last 2 years when the world went remote and closed down for a global pandemic. 2022 saw the world re-open, only to result in a highly challenging job market, felt by all organisations in all industries. We now have historically low unemployment rates, triggering candidate shortages alongside record-high job advertisements, causing every company to feel the shortage pinch as they all compete within the same small pool of candidates.

Blackman Recruitment 2022 Wrap Up Present

So, with all these tricky external factors going on, this is what this year’s job and recruitment market has taught us:

  • Within this tight market, what your company needs and wants can be two very different things

  • Look at a broader number of candidates from different backgrounds and industries who have talented transferable skills

  • Timing is everything, from when the Ad goes live to how long the recruitment process takes from start to completion, it all plays a vital role in how successful the outcome is

Although we faced a challenging market, we still came across highly talented candidates who fit into their new positions and organisations, like the roles had been made for them… we just had to dig a little deeper below the surface and get more creative with our processes this year to be able to find these treasured applicants.
